Tutt Aerospace

Advanced propulsion systems, experimental flight vehicles, and high-energy missions.

This is not analysis on paper. This is metal, fire, and flight hardware.

Tutt Aerospace is the parent company and public-facing program integrator for advanced propulsion systems, experimental flight vehicles, and high-energy missions.

Heretic is a lightweight three-stage carbon-composite launch vehicle. It is being built to carry a Mars sample-return and five-site micro-greenhouse mission architecture. The vehicle and mission architectures are substantially defined.

Heretic is powered by the Belka pressure-fed engine family: five 50 kN engines on the booster, two 20 kN variants on the sustainer, and one 10 kN variant on the kick stage. The 250 kN booster cluster uses a simple, robust feed architecture while supporting long burn durations and deep throttling capability.

Belka materials and process coupons are the next physical validation gate. Booster cluster hardware is being produced directly, through welding and additive manufacturing.

Alongside the pressure-fed line, work continues on pulse-driven pressure-gain propulsion, including pulse detonation and rotating detonation configurations, to reach regimes beyond the efficiency limits of conventional deflagration based rocket engines. These engines are designed for controllability, scalability, and integration into real flight vehicles rather than laboratory curiosities.

Tutt Aerospace is being built as a proto-prime: capable of originating programs, retaining technical authority over critical systems, integrating and qualifying multidisciplinary hardware, and carrying missions from architecture through flight.

Technical authority is held in house across systems and propulsion architecture, design for manufacturing, fabrication, simulation, test infrastructure, procurement, regulatory planning, intellectual property strategy, partnerships, capital formation, and program controls.

Black Flag Discovery operates as the private advanced R&D, astronaut development, and special-projects division. Its work spans pulse-driven pressure-gain propulsion, experimental manufacturing, high-energy mission systems, deterministic computation, and qualification for flight, test, and expeditionary operations. Further program details remain private by design.

The long term objective is Mars. This is not a flags and footprints exercise, but a disciplined progression toward sustained interplanetary capability: carrying Earth life to Mars, returning Martian regolith to Earth, and inserting the largest optical glass ever placed in orbit around Mars.

All of this will be accomplished for about two orders of magnitude less cost than any legacy program. Heretic 1 is the opening move. The mission exists to validate propulsion, structures, guidance, autonomous operations, and systems integration under real constraints.

Alexander Tutt, Founder and Chief Engineer.

Twenty-four years of high-performance hardware came before the first rocket engine. Tutt Motorsports ran from 2000 to 2024 across circle track, drag racing, and NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle: designing and fabricating race components, developing aerodynamic and chassis packages, assembling and tuning mechanical systems, analyzing run data, diagnosing failures, and carrying the people, spares, transport, schedules, budgets, and vendor relationships required to compete.

From 2017 to 2019, crew chief for Flyin Ryan Racing in NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle. The program started from a non-qualifying baseline and reached a No. 7 world ranking. The work was translating limited track data into immediate hardware and setup decisions inside a qualifying schedule that does not wait.

The method did not change on the way to propulsion. Systems and propulsion architecture, design for manufacturing, fabrication, simulation, test infrastructure, and program controls are held by the same person who welds the parts.

Build it, run it hard, break it, fix it, and come back faster.
